Building on the Lowcountry region's well-deserved reputation as a desirable place to live, work and play the Creative Industries Cluster is at the forefront of this emerging industry inspiring the development of new design and building techniques, restoration technologies and innovative products and materials.

This cluster has formed a leadership group called Charleston's Creative Parliament. Dicussions and planning meetings determine how to build the right infrastructure for people in the creative class. The group has raised $15,000 for an economic impact study of the creative industry on the region.

The following categories have been selected as areas of focus for the cluster:

Preservation & Restoration

Cultural Heritage

Architecture & Urban Design

Performing Arts

Visual Arts

Culinary Arts

Literary & Publishing

Digital Media & Design

New Carolina is celebrating the Lowcountry's Creative Industries

SC's first-ever Pecha Kucha Night in the Lowcountry
The Creative Industries Cluster focuses on areas such as preservation and restoration, cultural heritage, architecture and urban design, performing arts, visual arts, culinary arts, literature and publishing, and digital media and design.

Over the last several months, cluster organizers in the Lowcountry have held a series of discussions and planning meetings to determine how to build the right infrastructure for creative industries firms. That planning culminated in an event on November 12, 2008 called Pecha Kucha Night (PKN) to celebrate the launch of the Creative Industries Cluster in the Lowcountry.

New Carolina Lowcountry Change Agent Beth Meredith:
"We wanted to shine the light on the fact that creative industries are a major
economic driver in the Lowcountry. Companies in this industry are thriving,
starting businesses that create jobs, and attracting like-minded people to the area."
